EnglishFor the first time Pattern Magic 1 and 2 (the cult pattern-cutting book from Japan) has been published in English! I must be honest and say that I didn’t know this artist before.  I know these books can seem slightly different from those of which I speak normally here on IB but reading them I’ve had an explosion of inspiration, and I’m not even an expert in sewing and even less in fashion design!
Some inspiration I had…
In front of these real “Sculptures of clothes” my mind began to wonder about what kind of things is possible to create taking inspiration from them. For example, I realized that many of the details in these three-dimensional works could go also on a fabric doll, on a super original bag, on a unique pillow, a bedspread or millinery articles and hats. Imagine these protruding and falling shapes on them!
A super useful thing I found in these books is that EACH of the projects shown has its own tutorial with text, measurements and step by step images that show you how to create the paper pattern. This allow you also to learn new sewing techniques.
And what about the application of these ideas of three-dimensional shapes with holes, cones, cubes, balls, accordions… to other materials? Yes, think to the clay. It can be thinning and modeled using these patterns to recreate a realistic bow (in the “Pattern Magic 1″ book there are various example of bows) or an original tie. I think it’s amazing.

Both Pattern Magic 1 and Pattern Magic 2 has 200 illustrations each one, 104 pages and are 257 x 190 mm.

I decided to review these books because of their peculiarities and the inspiration they gave to me. I’m sure that many of you, fashion designers or not, can learn a lot from these tutorials and bring to life original ideas using their own creativity.

ItalianoPer la priam volta Pattern Magic 1 e 2 (il libro cult dal Giappone sul taglio del cartamodello) e stato pubblicato in Inglese! Devo essere onesta e dire che non conoscevo questa artista prima. So che questi libri possono sembrare leggermente differenti da quelli di cui parlo di solito qui in IB ma leggendoli, ho avuto un’esplosione di ispirazione, e non sono neanche un’esperta di cucito, men che meno in fashion design!
Alcune delle ispirazioni che ho avuto…
Di fronte a queste vere e proprie “Sculture di vestiti” la mia mente ha iniziato a immaginare che tipo di cose sia possibile creare prendendo ispirazione da esse. Per esempio, ho realizzato che molti dei dettagli di questi lavori potrebbero anche finire in una bambola di stoffa, in una borsa super originale, un cuscino unico, un copriletto, in articoli di modisteria e cappelli. Immaginateli con queste protuberanze e queste rientranze!
Una cosa che ho trovato super utile in questi libri è che ognuno dei progetti mostrati è accompagnato dal suo tutorial con testo, misure e una serie di immagini passo passo che ti mostrano come si crea il cartamodello. Questo ti permette anche di imparare nuove tecniche di cucito.
E che ne dici dell’applicazione di queste idee di forme tridimensionali con buchi, coni, cubi, sfere, fisarmoniche… ad altri materiali? Si, pensa ad esempio alle paste sintetiche come il fimo. Può essere steso e assotigliato per creare una sorta di “foglio” del giusto spessore per poter essere poi modellato usando questi modelli per ricreare dei fiocchi realistici (nel Pattern Magic 1 ci sono vari esempi di fiocchi diversi) o una cravatta originale. Fantastico.

Ho deciso di recensire questi libri proprio per la loro particolarità e per l’ispirazione che hanno suscitato in me. Sono sicura che molti di voi, fashion designers e non, possono imparare molto da questi tutorials e dare vita a nuove ed originali idee usando la propria creatività.

EnglishFor those who still haven’t this lovely book in his hands, I’m writing below a little review with some pics. Indie Craft is a 128 pages book by Jo Waterhouse - an “avid indie crafter, working in knitting, crochet and embroidery” – and published by Laurence King.

One of the most beautiful thing I found in this book has been the ability and creativity of all the artists featured of creating amazing works reinventing the use of traditional materials and techniques – such as embroidery, crochet, knitting, cross stitch, needle felt, plush toy making, tapestry – to come up with works that are incredibly original and unique in a perfect mix between craft and true art. I show you some.
Vivienne Strauss from Portland creates these lovely “drawings” on cotton, linen, vintage fabrics and other materials by hand stitching all the lines and shapes with the technique of embroidery.
These particular characters and “situations” are crocheted by Patricia Waller and reflect serious topics in contemporary society such as violence, disability, fear, human fragility. Incredible works.
The Beard Project by Erin Dollar doesn’t need words. Too funny! Who doesn’t love them?
And I LOVE the Knitta Please crew! They “add warmth” to their urban surroundings covering and knitting on almost everything. I absolutely propose to host them in other countries to color our cities too!
These works caught my attention for the ingenious way in which Severija reinvented a classic thing like cross stitch to decorate objects that are anything but fabrics! A stunning creativity.
Those are just some of the lovely photos of Sarah Neuburger’s work, cake toppers and wine stoppers. Sweet.
I showed just a small part of all the great works featured in the book. I can definitely say that for all the craft addicted like me, this book is another must-have. You can purchase your copy here.

Una delle cose più belle che ho trovato in questo libro è stata l’abilità e creatività di tutti gli artisti pubblicati di creare lavori pazzeschi reinventando l’uso di materiali e tecniche tradizionali – come il ricamo, l’uncinetto, il lavoro ai ferri, il punto croce, l’ infeltrimento ad ago, costruzione di pupazzi – per realizzare opere incredibilmente originali e uniche in un mix perfetto di artigianato e vera e propria arte. Ve ne mostro alcuni.
Vivienne Strauss da Portland crea questi bellissimi “disegni” su cotone, lino, stoffe vintage e altri materiali cucendo a mano tutte le linee e le forme con la tecnica del ricamo.
Questi particolari personaggi e situazioni sono fatte all’uncinetto da Patricia Waller e riflettono temi seri della nostra società contemporanea come la violenza, la disabilità, la paura, la fragilità umana. Incredibili.
Il Beard Project di Erin Dollar non ha bisogno di parole. E’ troppo divertente! Come si fa a non amarle?
E amo la crew Knitta Please! “Aggiungono calore” aThey “add warmth” al loro ambiente urbano coprendo e sferruzzando su qualunque cosa. Propongo assolutamente di ospitarle in altri paesi per colorare anche le nostre città!
Questi lavori hanno attirato la mia attenzione per il modo geniale in cui Severija ha reinventato una cosa super classica come il punto croce per decorare oggetti che sono tutto fuorchè stoffa! Una creatività stupefacente.
Questi sono solo alcune delle adorabili foto dei lavori di Sarah Neuburger, cake toppers e wine stoppers (tappi da vino). Dolcissimi.

EnglishToday I’m going to talk about the Amelia’s Anthology Of Illustration. I definitely think that it’s a must to have for all people who are into illustration or that just love art.
Probably most of you already know this book but, for those who still don’t know it, I’m going to do a review, hoping to describe in the best way possible this precious work and its contents.
THE AUTHOR: The author is Amelia Gregory, a publisher, art director, editor, graphic designer, writer, blogger, photographer, lecturer climate activist and ceilidh caller. Yes, a long list of things. Isn’t it? She lives in East London where she runs Amelia’s Magazine website and Amelia’s House, the publishing company.
BOOK’S CHARACTERISTICS: Amelia’s Anthology is a 265 pages’ hard cover book that feature 40 illustrators from all over the world, lots of technologies to fantasize with and interestings interviews to artists.
The book is printed with vegetable based inks and eco-laminated.
When I held it on hand I truly realized how it was the result of an extremely professional work.
Each page is a delight for the eyes and a wonderful source of inspiration. It’s a pleasure to read and watch all the little details of illustrations and of the techniques that have been used.
Whenever you turn a page you find a completely different panorama.
THE THEME: The subtitle of the book is ” Featuring renewable technologies to prevent catastrophic climate change. A book to inspire creativity in the climate of change. ” This is the topic around which illustrations and themes are developed.
Illustrating a more sustainable world seems to has been funny and creative for the artists.
To find all these talented illustrators, Amelia created an open brief on her Amelia’s Magazine website, that was opened to anyone, no matter how much or little experience they had. The result is a wide mix of styles and experiences, from full time professionals to people who are still at college or that have yet to find their feet.
MY OPINION: This book is one of those books that people that love art, illustration, creativity (and to fantasize on a better world too), can’t miss in their own collection. An extremely professional work that deserves praises to Amelia, all the people who worked with her to this project and to all the great artists involved.

Probabilmente la maggior parte di questi già conoscono il libro (uscito da circa 6 mesi), ma per chi ancora non lo conoscesse, sto per farne una recensione, sperando di descrivere nel miglior modo possibile questo prezioso lavoro e il suo contenuto.
L’AUTORE: L’autore è Amelia Gregory, un’ editrice, art director, redattrice, grafica, scrittrice, blogger, fotografa, attivista nell’ambito del clima, docente e ceilidh caller (si, lo ammetto, questo non lo so tradurre). Un lungo elenco. Vero? Vive a est di Londra dove gestisce il sito di Amelia’s Magazine e l’ Amelia’s House, la casa editrice.
CARATTERISTICHE DEL LIBRO: Amelia’s Anthology Of Illustration è un libro di 265 pagine a copertina rigida, che rappresenta 40 illustratori provenienti da tutto il mondo, un sacco di tecnologie con cui fantasticare e molte interviste interessanti agli artisti.
Il libro è stampato con inchiostri a base vegetale ed eco-laminato.
Quando l’ho avuto in mano ho davvero realizzato quanto fosse stato il risultato di un lavoro estremamente professionale.
Ogni pagina è una delizia per gli occhi e una meravigliosa fonte di ispirazione. E ‘un piacere leggere e guardare tutti i piccoli dettagli delle illustrazioni e delle tecniche che sono state utilizzate.
Ogni volta che si gira una pagina si trova un panorama completamente diverso.
IL TEMA: Il sottotitolo del libro è “Rappresentando le tecnologie rinnovabili per impedire un cambiamento climatico catastrofico. Un libro per ispirare creatività nel clima del cambiamento.” Questo è il tema intorno al quale vengono sviluppate le illustrazioni e le tematiche trattate.
Illustrare un mondo più sostenibile sembra essere stato molto divertente e creativo per gli artisti.
Per trovare tutti questi illustratori talentuosi, Amelia ha creato sul suo sito Amelia’s Magazine, un breve sommario di istruzioni che era aperto a chiunque, non importa quanta o quanta poca esperienza avessero. Il risultato è un mix di varietà di stili e di esperienze, da professionisti a tempo pieno a persone che sono ancora al college o che devono ancora trovare la loro strada.
LA MIA OPINIONE: Questo libro è uno di quei libri che per chi ama l’arte, l’illustrazione, la creatività (e anche fantasticare su un mondo migliore), non può mancare nella propria collezione. Un lavoro estremamente professionale che merita i complimenti ad Amelia, a tutte le persone che hanno lavorato con lei per questo progetto e tutti i grandi artisti coinvolti.

I want to spent some words on this book because I have read it and found it really interesting and above all, useful. Before the opening of this site, I’ve been lots of time searching on the web for tips, advises and everything that could be useful to improve the blog, its contents and relations with users.
As I already said, I think that blog has its own structure, timing, fluxes, etc, and this makes necessary to have some basic informations about how to organize your work to keep your blog on ‘track, relevant and sales-oriented’, as Tara says.
In my opinion ‘52 weeks of blogging your passion‘ is a really indispensable guide to all passionate people who wants to start blogging with a well defined mission and concrete goals to accomplish.
This, both for who is at its first attempt with blogging, that for who is already into blogging but wants to give it a fresh touch.
Full of inspiring words, it will guide you through your creative journey, a personal connection with readers/customers and the achieve of a better identification in your field.
I really hope that this book can be useful to you as it is for me.

Voglio spendere alcune parole su questo libro perché l’ho letto e l’ho trovato davvero interessante e soprattutto utile. Prima dell’apertura di questo sito, sono stata molto tempo a cercare sul web suggerimenti, consigli e tutto ciò che poteva essere utile per migliorare il blog, i suoi contenuti e le relazioni con gli utenti.
Come ho già detto, credo che il blog abbia una struttura tutta sua, propri tempi, flussi, ecc, e questo rende necessario il disporre di alcune informazioni di base su come organizzare il vostro lavoro per mantenere il vostro blog su ‘in pista, pertinente e orientato alla vendita “, come dice Tara.

Even if many people are already talking about it in these days, I couldn’t that not reserve to it a space here too.
It’s the new book by Kate Bingaman-Burt, the artist who 3 years ago began this original project to convert in drawings and doodles all her daily purchases and catalog them into monthly zines.
The idea comes from a substantial credit card debt (about $20,000), mostly comprised of little things that she bought. She started to draw all this stuff together with her credit card statements, till the debit was repaid.
I think that behind the originality of this idea there is also a cool irony that captures the reader’s curiosity as well as a sort of search of meanings and study of messages that are part of products we buy.

Anche se molte perosne stanno ne già parlando in questi giorni, non potevo non riservargli anche io uno spazio qui.
E’ il nuovo libro di Kate Bingaman-Burt, l’artista che 3 anni fainiziò questo originale progetto di convertire in disegni tutti i suoi acquisti quitidiani e catalogarli in magazine mesili.
