How I will Spend my Summer

EnglishCreative people never give up How I will Spend my Summer

Since ¾ of the things I want to do this summer are intimately linked to Imaginative Bloom and annexes (oddly enough :D ), I thought it would be nice to share this list with all the creative fellow travelers that follow IB  (and so, more or less indirectly, also my own adventures).

In addition to continuing the work that I carry out every day for IB, there are some things that I would like to do …

1) Update the Wordpress version I’m actually using on IB.

Yep. Has been a while I think this, but being a delicate thing that I have never done before (I started using WP for the first time when I opened this blog), up to now I always deferred. It’s called terror! :)

The updates are always important for a lot of reasons including security.

Periodically, in fact, programmers release updates that go to repair the parts of code less “stable”, and the so-called “bugs” through which hackers and malicious can cause several problems, including serious ones, and steal sensible data such as your password.

Being just a delicate procedure, it is necessary to follow precise steps including first and foremost to make a backup of all the files and the database because the risk is that if something goes wrong, you lose all the work, content and the changes made so far. Ta-dààà.

Another good reason to upgrade is the fact that in this way, our blog will be compatible with the new plugins released.
Whether updates are of “old” existing plugins, whether they are totally new, they allow a better and safer use and customization of the blog, that will also be in line with new technologies, new social, etc..

So I am trying to do this whole procedure and other various tests locally on my computer, on a “copy” of IB (another thing I’ve never done before), to test if everything goes well before doing it on the online IB. It will take me a while , but I strongly hope to finish it by summer. The mantra is already started, OoOoMmMm.

2) Make at least part of the changes that I planned for the site.

There are a few things that I want to change.
Some small change in design and some change on the structure.

Again, these take time, and I’ve to take it out  from the rest a little at a time.
I would like to do them after the upgrade, so that the changes are clean in the updated code.

Uh, if you have any idea about anything you’d like to see in IB, new sections, spaces, categories, etc., anything that comes in your mind, you can use the comments below. My hook could catch them.

3) Rearrange the Lab.

My creative laboratory has been emptied from boxes of not-mine-things that harbored there for too long.
This means that finally, I can start to rearrange it (there are lot of things to do!) to make it a nice space in which to experiment, develop, create. Hooray!

A few weeks ago I bought some of the tools and equipment I need for the new works I have in mind.

At the moment I’m not able to tell you how I can combine everything: the site of jugglers and street artists that I admin for years, IB and related, the Laboratory and the new creative works…
It ‘the first time that I’m experiencing this all together.
Yes, let’s face it, I’m a bit agitated.

The fear of not being able to do what I want in the way I wish, creates an evil goblin that whispers to my ears trying to make me give up.

For now I can only say that I can’t wait to get back to work and that I will do my best – and I will also plug my ears!

4) Spend some day at the beach.

In all this, like laborious ants, I hope to be able to go to the beach from time to time to recharge the batteries and get some tan; white skin on summer makes look like too nerdy!

I hope it was nice to read what will happen next in IB, including the anxieties for update and backup, and the agitation of the “can I do that?” :)

What do you think?
And what about your list? Did you already think about what to do during this summer?

ItalianoCreative people never give up How I will Spend my Summer

Che dite?

E la vostra lista? Avete già pensato a cosa farete durante quest’estate?

  • This is my first time visit at here and i am in fact impressed to read all at one place.

  • Ha, I have similar things on my list! I want to tweak my website design a bit, add a second side bar, because I find one a bit too messy. I also want to put my theme in a “child theme” or something (still need to read a lot about this :p) so I can update my Wordpress without risking alternations to my theme (every time I update now, I lose all the adaptations I made before)… + I have a humongous to do list (50 items!), but they’re all going to be fun! :)

Good luck with your list! :)

    • Yeeee, we’re all in a nerdy summer! LoL :)

I think sidebars are the things that undergo more changes in a blog’s life… and loosing all the adaptions could driving me crazy!

You to do list seems to be very substantial, hope everything will go for the best!

      xoxo

  • So so so so hot here too. I like the cool drinks and the trips to the cool spots. Also listen to great music while you work! I choke down the unpleasant parts like revamping the internet stuff in little tiny bites and check them off as I go. Then I spend the big chunks of time on the fun, creative bits.

    • Katy your summer program sound really refreshing and funny!
As for me, it’s been for too long I had to do it, so I absolutely can’t choke down the upgrade of WP or I think the blog could implode at any moment! LoL :D

  • I was wanting to hear about the creative and business books you’ve got lined up for your summer reading! Another blog post, perhaps? I cracked up a little bit at “update WordPress” :P I just do it without backing up! Although, I don’t have much choice in the matter as my internet connection usually doesn’t allow such an immense use of bandwidth (I’m travelling Europe in a motorhome). Good luck with the backing up!

    • Hey Katherine, I’d love to share my “summer books” with all of you! Nice idea!
      I think I’ll do it soon :)

It’s wonderful to hear you from a motorhome who’s travelling around Europe! And love the image of you trying to stay in contact with us! So sweet!

Thank you for stopping by… see you on the book’s post :)

  • Fabulous things to do for the summer and I wish you the best! It’s hot here in Italy and sometimes I find it hard to concentrate – so one small step at a time, definitely!

For Wordpress, I do automatic updates from within Wordpress and just do regular backups of all the content. So not only do you have regular backups through your web host, also your own local copies. Technically, you should be able to rebuild an entire Wordpress site, if you have the theme and content files backed up! Good luck!

    • Hi Linda and thanks for your wishes! I think we all need them for our projects, always so “laborious”! And yes is soooo hot here!:)

About the WP update, I preferred to disable the automatic one because I continuously make tests in the “backstage”, add and remove plugins, etc and so it can be that suddenly something start to give errors for incompatibility reasons. I wanted to avoid these kind of problems.

Once main things I want to set and change will be done, I’ll surely update more frequently, but I think I’ll keep on doing it manually.

For the backups I do them regularly too, but lately the plugin that did this automatically stopped to work, so I’m doing them manually.

In both cases there’s always the chance that some file is not correctly saved, so for this I’m always a bit anxious during this operation :D

Good luck for your “summer list” too! Whatever it contains!
